Passing Trains

Passing Trains is a new library that delivers impressive sounds of Express, Freight and Passenger trains that approach, pass, stop and pull out.

The recordings took place at several isolated spots in Saxon Switzerland near Dresden. This rock formation is cut by a river that formed a deep valley where the rails snake along.
Due to the complex reflection patterns caused by the rock walls some of the included takes have amazing long tails of up 3 minutes. These tails sound like otherworldly swells of approaching iron and steel. Passing Trains also contains some impressive close ups that were taken with lavaliers and contact microphones attached directly at the rail.

Detunized Electromagnetic ReFill

Sounds from inside computers

Detunized has released Electromagnetic - a collection of ReFill Combinators and instrument patches that source their sounds from various computers upon booting, reading from CD-ROM, accessing WiFi, formatting hard disks or floppies.

All these often unwanted and disturbing noises where captured with several contact microphones and induction coils that revealed a deep look into the streams of electrons and bits. Once pulled to daylight it shows that these serenades of hums and crosstalks have far more potential than just producing a wall of buzz. So a good amount of the sourced noises is even capable of forming tunable sounds, rhythmic structures and sophisticated beat patterns.

Including 70 Combinators that are built up of 198 subpatches with access to more than 150 samples Electromagnetic addresses to sound designers and composers likewise.

The chromatically mapped “All-Combinators” provide an instant overview of the source material but at the same time they invite for thrilling explorations of what is going on noise-wise in everybodies computer.

The “Autorun” Combinators offer exciting patterns that reside at the borderline between rhythmic structure and otherworldly soundscapes.

The “Beat and Bass” section hosts beefy bass sounds and synched drum patterns that lay the foundation of rock solid IDM tracks. Beat and Bass also contains two fully staffed Kong Kits with single hits that range from versatile to funny.

The “Boots and Drones” Combinators are the perfect starting point for background layers whenever it comes to the scoring of thrilling moods, eerie ambiences or depressing atmospheres.

Once having mastered this dark area of sound fields there is still the “Keys and Pads” section to discover. This is the right place where a selection of lovely keyboards and evolving pads is awaiting deployment.

HumBuzz Live Pack is a versatile collection of 86 surprising Ableton Racks.
The source material was created by capturing the electromagnetic fields emited by fridges, microwaves, boilers, cellphones, TVs and computer components.
Like all modern electronics these devices produce a complex mixture of noises that cover wide frequency ranges. But surprisingly often one can find tonal elements that fit into usefull scales.
Therefore HumBuzz not only contains hum and buzz but also thick pads, leads, bells and keys that do not deny it´s origin but are perfect in tune.
Also included are many start-up and boot noises applicable for event-driven foleys, scoring or interface design.

Computer Noises

Hard disks, Floppy drives, CPU fans and more

Computer Noises is based on a wide palette of noises that computers emit when booting, reading from their CD-ROM drives or accessing a hard disk.

The library features several complete boot sequences of 10 different laptop and desktop computers ranging from an old ATARI PC-2, going over to Pentium I and III, Celerons and CoreDuo machines.
Each booting sequence was recorded from different positions within the computer casings.
So each computer features its own hard disks, power- and CPU fans plus all those other strange noises that occured.

The stems come as stereo files but due to the fact that a computer doesn´t show up as an ideal "A-B" , "X-Y" , "ORTF" or whatever stereo compatible sound source some of the stems should be seen as dual-mono files.
This doubles the amount of editing and processing possibilities.

As bonus 25 extra sounds from external hard disks and blowers of all kind are included in this library.

Detunized releases “Gra.FX2” Live Pack - Idiographic Sound Sculptures

Gra.FX2 is the second installment of a series of graphic generated sounds.
This Live Pack delivers a surprising toolbox of 63 instruments for the creation of otherworldly, dissonant textures and drones. The sample pool of the instruments was created by parsing more than 100 bitmaps by a variety of specialized software tools.
Although Gra.FX2 covers an extensive range from SciFi-melodies to LoFi dust-noise patterns each single instrument follows an unified macro control layout. This allows for fast and intuitive interaction with external controllers like Push.

Detunized has finished testing all previous releases with the forthcomming Live 9

The final release of LIVE 9 will host all Detunized Live Packs without any restrictions.
Release numbers DTS001 to DTS046 were installed and tested successfully.

Throughout the entire testing routines no drawbacks had been detected.

Polite 800

„Polite 800“ introduces another famous eighties synthesizer: the Korg Poly 800, a classic hybrid synth that is equipped with digital controlled oscillators and a 24dB analog filter.

The Library contains 35 instruments which perfectly capture the spirit of this battery driven unit.

Both, the Live Pack and the Refill introduce a standardized control layout which is easy to familiarize with.

Nevertheless all controls and switches of the Live Racks and Refill Combinators are multi-connected to more than 20 parameters per instrument. So hot-swapping through the included Basses, Keys, Pads, Brasses and FX sounds is easy but invites for spontaneous in-depth tweaking at the same time.

Detunized Laid Back Piano

The Detunized Laid Back Piano is now available in the Propellerhead Pro Shop

For this ReFill, every single string was recorded separately from a number of different microphone positions. Three of the included Combinators represent carefully tuned piano presets (Piano, Piano Distance, Tiny Piano).

For another set of combinators, a lot of prepared piano techniques were applied, like the sound of the strings with printer paper clamped in-between, attached plastic tools, pillow-damped plucking, and more. 

Additionally six Combinators with untuned one-shots and atonal loops are included in the Refill. These sounds were achieved by methods such as throwing a variety of items into the piano housing, stroking a thumb´s nail along the lower strings, and more. Furthermore, each person that came along during the 3-day recording session was invited to strike and knock on the piano body in order to end up with a collection of suspenseful "Percussion" sounds.

6-string stock acoustic guitar

Guitar introduces the sounds from a stock acoustic guitar with 3 steel and 3 nylon strings.
The instrument´s recordings were taken from two different microphone positions and are captured to phase-aligned dual-mono samples.
So each preset of the Live Pack has a dedicated macro control for blending between these mic positions.
Guitar includes 2 guitar presets, 3 bass presets, a drum machine with hits and scrapes from the guitar body plus a handful of processings and adaptions of the original sounds.
